I wanted to get a lot more from my circular saw. It can make both crosscuts and rip cuts, if 1 of the angle iron rails is moved away from the other. I developed and produced this portable saw guide based on some 3/4 inch plywood and two really straight pieces of 1 inch angle iron.

165mm saws weigh in at nearly as much as a 185mm saw - also, in a high quality saw never save a lot ...
